How to increase the Value of Your Home

Small Things You Can Do To Improve the Value of Your Home

Selling your home can be a very stressful process, especially if you’ve lived there for a long time. You’ll want to make sure that your home’s value is the best that it can be, which is often a very daunting task. However, there are lots of small things you can do to improve the value of your home that won’t break the bank in the meantime. If you are considering selling your home in the future, here are some steps you can take to make sure you get the best value that you can from it.

Give your rooms a facelift with paint.

One of the biggest things you can do, both on the interior and exterior of your home, is to touch up the paint. Painting rooms new and innovative colors is fairly inexpensive and is a fun and easy project you can do in a weekend or two. Touching up the paint makes a home look cared-for and welcoming, so it can really have an impact. However, try to avoid brights or extremely dark colors in most cases, as they might have a negative impact when it comes to finding a buyer for your home.

Add some small plants to your yard.

Boosting your curb appeal makes a huge difference when it comes to changing the selling value of your home. Although adding large trees and bushes makes a big difference, they can sometimes be a little expensive for homeowners on a budget, and they can take time to plant as well. Add some greenery to your yard with a small, low-maintenance garden or potted plants. Be sure to consider the weather of the region where you live and choose plants that tend to do well naturally there, so you don’t have to spend tons of time maintaining them.

Switch out fixtures.

Although you may not realize it, things like doorknobs, faucets, lighting fixtures, and other small elements of your home can really change the way it looks and feels. An easy way to give your home a modern update is by switching out the fixtures. You can often do this yourself, or hire a contractor to do it in a day if you’d prefer not to. By coordinating the finishings in your home and giving them a fresh new look, you’ll instantly add some value without having to make a huge change.

Focus on your kitchen.

Kitchens can often make or break the value of a home, so don’t neglect them. Take an honest look at the various aspects of your kitchen, and switch out the items that have received the most wear over the years, whether that be the stovetop, cabinets, sink, refrigerator, or something else. This isn’t necessarily something you have to do all in one go – by slowly making changes to your kitchen when you can afford them, you won’t blow your budget, but your home value will be great by the time you are ready to sell.

Make the most of your closets.

A good amount of storage space can make a big difference when it comes to renovating your home and adding value to it, so focus on making the most of your closets. If they feel cramped and cluttered, see how you can rearrange shelving and hanging space to make it feel more open. If it’s within your budget, you may also want to consider adding closests to rooms that don’t have them, as this is an investment that often pays off well.

When in doubt about how to increase the value of your home, talk to a real estate expert to see what they would recommend.
